Coconut [Cocos nucifera]
Coconut [Cocos nucifera] oil is extracted from the inner flesh of the coconut. It contains saturated fats in forms of medium chain fatty acids or triglycerides. Due to the presence of these fats, coconut oil can assist to retain the moisture content of the skin, as the fats help to prevent moisture loss through the pores on skin.
Capric, caprylic and lauric acids found in coconut oil have strong antimicrobial properties. When applied to the skin, coconut oil can protect open wounds from microbial infections as well as reduce the symptoms associated with psoriasis and eczema.
Coconut oil contains vitamin E, which is essential for skin nourishment and healthy skin growth. It prevents skin damage, due to its antioxidant properties.
